Don’t Melt Your Fat Away, Freeze It Away!
Do you go to the gym, work out, watch what you eat, and do what seems like everything in your power to reduce your “love handles” or abdominal fat, only to see those stubborn areas persist?
Each of our bodies is programmed differently to hold weight in different areas. Men tend to hold weight in the flanks (love handles) and lower abdomen. Women hold weight in these areas, plus the thighs and breasts. When the amount of calories taken in exceeds the number of calories expended, we store fat. Where we each individually tend to store this fat depends on our genetics.
However, when we exercise and eat less, and burn more calories than we take in, these storage areas are the last ones to decrease in size. What effectively happens is that to reduce these stubborn fatty deposits, our bodies have to go into starvation mode, which is not a healthy state!
Now imagine for a moment that we could target these stubborn areas, treating them with a device that required no needles, no surgery, and no downtime. Imagine that you could see real, visible results with only one treatment. Imagine that these results were permanent. Wouldn’t that sound simply too good to be true?
Well, this revolutionary device is called Coolsculpting, and although it sounds like a fantasy, it has truly arrived. The device was invented by two Harvard scientists. After they read about the peculiar finding of dimples in children after prolonged popsicle-sucking, the idea that cold could lead to fat loss got them started. After years of studying the phenomenon, it became very clear that fat was more susceptible to cold injury than the surrounding skin and muscle. Simply stated, if you freeze tissue for a certain period of time, fat could be selectively reduced.
The Coolsculpting device targets a specific area, such as the love handle, abdomen, or mid back, and cools the area during a one hour treatment. There are no needles, and no sedation is required for the procedure. At the end of the treatment, there is slight redness and sometimes mild bruising. There is no downtime required and patients are back to work and back to the gym later that day!
The fat reduction is not immediate. In fact, the fat cells at the end of treatment are still alive. However, a process called “apoptosis” has begun in these cells, leading them to gradually die off over the next several weeks. What the patient experiences is a 20 to 30 percent reduction of fat in these targeted areas over the course of about 6 to 12 weeks. The best candidates are those who are at or slightly above their ideal body weight.
As one of the first plastic surgeons in the area to offer this new and exciting technology, my office is offering a special introductory rate. Give us a call today to schedule a free Coolsculpting consultation and find out for yourself how this revolutionary technology can help you!
